Each year, valedictorians are selected to represent the graduating classes of each faculty/department. In addition to facilitating the valedictorian nomination process, the McMaster Students Union (MSU) sets the selection parameters, (pursuant to the selection policy), which include, among other factors; grade achievement, community involvement and athletic/recreational experience. The MSU provides undergraduate student representation on the valedictorian selection committees for each faculty/department.
The McMaster Students Union is pleased to announce the valedictorians for the 2016 Spring Convocation:
- Business: Con nor Prebianca
- Engineering: Jonathon Tonietto (morning) & Michael Popovich (afternoon)
- Health Sciences: Avijeet Sarker
- Humanities & Arts & Science: Suzy Flader
- Nursing & Medical Radiation: Caroline Mueller
- Science: Aadil Ali (morning) & Lauren Smith (afternoon)
- Social Sciences: Nathan Beresh (morning & afternoon)
“The 2016 valedictorians are conspicuous marvels of McMaster University’s student body,” said Spencer Nestico-Semianiw, Vice President (Education) of the MSU. “These students should be commended on both their scholastic excellence, as well as the tremendous amount of self-directed, out-of-the classroom learning displayed by each recipient. The 2016 Valedictorians are extraordinary students, worthy of their new title.”
McMaster’s convocation ceremonies take place in the Great Hall at Hamilton Place from June 13 -17. The faculty of Health Sciences (excluding Nursing) will take place on May 27. Specific dates are different for each faculty. Upon arrival, granduands should enter through the Studio Theatre entrance of Hamilton Place, and their guests should enter through the main lobby entrance of Hamilton Place. Both entrances are located on Summers Lane.
