what are some major differences between 4th year courses and 3rd or 2nd year courses?

there's a 4 instead of a 3 or a 2

they might be more specific, which is often easier as you don't need to know a lot of useless crap.

They are generally smaller and more likely to contain projects or presentations in lieu of exams.
