Action Required-Sectioning Conflict
Okay, basically I knew this was going to happen BUT I absolutely need both the courses which are conflicting one another. One of them is a lab course and the other one is biochem. I'm in Honours Chemistry and since there are only about 30 of us, we basically all have the same cores (I can't change my schedule around).

My question is, if the schedule on SOLAR says I need to take action, do I HAVE to do it? Right now, my biochem course isn't even showing up on my schedule (probably since it's viewed as an "elective").

Any help is appreciated. This is so stressful

If both of the courses a required they shouldn't conflict... that's weird only option I can think of is maybe take one of them next year since I doubt they have more than 1 core.

question are you enrolled in honours chemistry(not the specialization)
If you are you don't have to take biochem till third year...

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough, biochem is required for pharmacy (which I'm applying for this year).

Edit: I emailed someone from the chem department awhile ago because I made a mock schedule like 2 months ago? Anyways, he says he doesn't recommend it, but he never said it wasn't allowed :S. My roommate also takes the same biochem as me so I was thinking of going to my lab course (can't really skip that now haha) and getting biochem notes from her.

If it's not required for your program then there is nothing you can do.

If it's not required and the courses conflict, then you're out of luck--there's nothing they can do to help you. If the biochem you're taking is 2EE3, it has in-class midterms. So, if you can't miss your lab, and the biochem prof's policy is to move all the weight onto the final exam (and not allow any early writes), that would result in a high weight on your final exam. Email the biochem prof and ask what his policy is regarding missed midterms.

Your other option is to take it online via Athabasca: http://www.science.mcmaster. ca/ass...lop2/equiv.php
The Athabasca equivalent is CHEM 301--it's preapproved to be equivalent to biochem 2EE3. If you're going to do this though, I'd double-check with the pharm schools you're applying for to make sure it's okay. Like, if CHEM301=biochem2EE3 and biochem2EE3=the equivalent course at waterloo or UofT, it should stand to reason that CHEM301=the equivalent course at waterloo or UofT, but it's safer to double-check

Unfortunately, I don't think it's accepted because there's a document available showing all the course equivalent. To be honest, I don't mind having all the weight moved to my final exam, but I'm sure I'll be able to talk to my chem lab coordinator about it (lucky it's such a small program so I get to know my profs). What I'm not sure is, am I ALLOWED to go ahead with the conflict even though biochem isn't showing up on my schedule?

Thanks

If you're referring to the pdf on the UofT pharmacy admissions website, it only lists Ontario University equivalents. Athabasca isn't based in Ontario, so it wouldn't be listed.

If you don't want to go the online route, then I'd recommend talking to both profs about it, not just the lab coordinator. Make sure you know the biochem prof's policy (I believe the prof for 2EE3 is Dr Zhorov) regarding missed work, and then you can figure things out from there. I believe you're allowed to go ahead with the conflict--there's a risk that your final exams will be scheduled on the same day, and I don't know if you can defer one of them if you knowingly took conflicting courses. If your lab course doesn't have an exam though, then you won't have this problem

Haha, yeah I'm so happy it doesn't have an exam. But they might schedule it with another chemistry exam knowing that those whom are in chemistry would have a conflict with biochem =/. Ugh, it's tough trying to get into their heads.

Who do you think I should email regarding biochem missing in my timetable? I tried emailing the chemistry department and I don't even think the guy read half my email because he was talking about something COMPLETELY different.

Even if you have a conflict, it shouldn't be missing entirely. A lot of people have lists of things where they're supposed to choose a section, but it was a glitch in the system and will hopefully be fixed tomorrow. If it isn't, try contacting the registrar, since they're the ones responsible for timetables/scheduling. If you can go in person, that might solve things faster than a phone call or email.

Yeah, the whole thing is missing and the funny thing is that I don't have labs on a friday so it SHOULD be there =/. That's why I'm freaking because last year I did something like this but at least some of the cores were showing on my schedule.

Go on MUGSI and check your degree audit and program/course summary to make sure you're actually registered in biochem 2EE3. If you are, then it's just a timetable/scheduling glitch and nothing major to worry about. If you're actually not registered in the course, that's a whole other problem.

Yup, my first thought was to check degree audit and then I checked the payment on solar to make sure it says 30 units. So I'm good to go?

Sounds like it At least, it sounds like you're registered for all the courses you intended to register for Good luck sorting the conflict out!
