Adopt-a-creek and Stream Water Sampling!
Dear Macinsiders,
It's early spring and everyone is on the fields playing Frisbee and such. Want to do something different? The McMaster Health in Water Association (MHiWA) invites you to embrace our awakening environment by adopting a creek and sampling stream water in the neighbourhood!
The tentative creek MHiWA is looking to adopt is located in Dundas. We will first do some stream cleaning to remove any pop cans, cigarette butts, plastic bags, etc. We are also going to collect water samples from different locations of the creek. The samples will then be sent to a water lab at Mac to assess for coliform bacteria numbers, an important indicator of water quality. Cool thing to note is that the data we collect could be used in the lab's studies!
Some projected dates are :
-Thursday, March 29th, meet @ Mac at 2:30pm
-Saturday, March 31st, meet @ Mac at 2pm
-After school's done: April 5th, 6th, or 7th, meet @ Mac at 2pm
Let us know which dates you prefer by emailing [email protected] !
Come on out and enjoy the sunshine while taking care of our local waters! Transportation and food will be provided (please let us know if you have a car to help with carpooling).
Can't wait to see you guys there!
Cheers,
MHiWA Team
