hey everybody,
i just wanted to let you know about some things we've got planned for alternative welcome week in september.

alternative welcome week is seven days full of workshops, performances, ideas, adventures and general goodtimedness. the focus of the week (september 13-17) will be on the various projects and work being done for social and environmental justice.

some of the ideas we're working on right now include:
-plant identification hikes
-DIY bike repair
-dub poetry workshop
-radical dance party!
-take back the night!
-lots and lots more

the final(ish) schedule won't be coming out for another few weeks (hopefully sooner, but this project is turning out to be more complicated than we expected). i'll keep you posted on what's going on, but in the meantime you can check out our websites listed below.

oh and everything is FREE and does not require registration.

Sounds neat. Why is there an alternative though? What's wrong with the University-run Welcome Week?

alternative welcome week is just filling in the gaps that haven't really been dealt with much by the university's welcome week.
to be clear: alternative welcome week will be the week after the university's welcome week, and we hope people have fun and meet friends at both events.

the alternative part is probably just for a lack of creativity. alternative welcome week probably isn't the sexiest name but we hope that what we lack in naming ability will be made up for in general bad assedness.

I just heard about this, and I am surprised so few people are talking about it...
