Anthropology 1AB3: Race, Identity, Power
Hi!
Anthro 1AB3 (Race, Identity, Power) is a new course for this school year - taught by Prof. Sorge. I was wondering if anyone in it this semester - or who has a friend in this course - can provide some feedback on it...?
I need to choose between English 1AA3: The Longer Genres or Anthropology 1AB3: Race, Identity and Power, and I'm having a hard time deciding!
Can anyone provide some insight on how the material is, or even what Prof. Sorge is like..?
Thank you!

I can't comment on the new course, but from previous years I've heard not so great things about Sorge.

I had a friend in longer genres last year (same prof) and she really enjoyed it; the books he chose were actually things you wanted to read.

Personally, I liked Sorge. He did kinda have an ''arrogant phd'' feel to him sometimes but for the most part was pretty engaging. I never lost interest in what he was teaching and by no means is cultural anthropology an interest of mine.

I'm taking this course at the moment.

Sorge is awesome, very engaging prof. The material isn't hard at all: just learning features of different cultures etc.

The course consists of 2 assignments (essays), a midterm (multiple choice) and a final (multiple choice as well as long answer).

My score so far is 70% and I hardly spent any time studying. The midterm contained a lot of factual questions from the textbook, which is where I lost marks.

Overall: Very light workload but difficult to get a 11 or 12 as you need to have a talent for writing essays and memorizing facts.

are the essays research essays? Like do you have to find articles and use them in your essay?
