This course is about the ancient Maya civilization before conquest with an emphasis on the Classic and Postclassic periods. It is taught by Dr. Laura Finsten.
The mark break down was really flexible. You could either do 2 midterms at 25% each and the final exam at 50% OR replace one midterm with a 1500 words essay OR replace both midterms with a 3000 words essay.
It was a night class when I took it so we'd get bored in class easily but Finsten showed a lot of movies so that helped keep our attention.
Finsten also gives out study guides before each midterm and the final exam which she tests directly from so there are no real surprises.

Do we have to choose what mark break down we want to use or do they use whichever gives us the highest mark?
You choose which mark breakdown to use. It's a small class so you just have to make sure you let her know that you are writing an essay so she doesn't think you're missing for a midterm.
Does this course have a textbook? or is it just powerpoints?
Check out the Anthro department's website for the course outlilne in the next few weeks when it becomes available. Also, check out titles.mcmaster.ca in mid-August for info about textbooks. http://www.anthropology.mcma ster.c...rse-outlines-1
