Anthropology 3E03

Taken Term II 2009-2010 with Dr. Tristan Carter. Topic was: "Current Debates in Eastern Mediterranean Prehistory". Great Prof, funny, keeps you entertained. Complete lectures posted to ELM. Because there was no exam, a lot of people didn't bother coming to lecture. Also, no textbook, all readings posted to ELM. Some previous courses in archaeology are probably a good idea.

Course Description:

This course will provide a critical overview of developments in Eastern Mediterranean prehistory from the Palaeolithic to the Late Bronze Age, using this regional/temporal backdrop to examine a number of major debates of more general archaeological significance, including:
the origins and spread of agriculture
the role of trade and exchange in socio-economic development
state formation
ideology and power

Course Breakdown:

Tutorial Attendance/Weekly Responses: 25%
Midterm Paper (5 pages): 25%
Long Paper Proposal (1-2 pages): 5%
Long Paper (10-12 pages): 45%
