Me and my room mate are looking for a decent cable service with no contracts and we would also prefer one that doesn't require digital receivers (unless you can rent them very cheap). Does anyone have any recommendations? All we could really find so far is Cogeco and Bell.

The problem is that Hamilton is split into regions, and the cable companies that serve hamilton (cogeco, source and shaw) each claim a region. Since cogeco has claim over much of the downtown, you probably won't be able to get anything other than them or bell (or maybe rogers) in the downtown unless you get a satellite receiver.

I’ve never heard of more than one cable company serving a single region . Isn’t this common knowledge ? This is even the case in the USA.
