Anyone who has had these first year profs?
Hey!
Has anyone professors, Stone and Quinn for Bio (1m03), Nejat for physics, Poinar for Anthro?
I've read the course outline's and there isn't much about their testing styles. So, I was wondering, how do they test on the material? Like it is only problems for physics, does anyone ask for definitions? It'd really be helpful if anyone can give me some info >.<

i had nejat.. his tests were all multiple choice.. solving problems and some definitions/scenarios
didnt have any of those ppl for bio (had dushoff and the-other-guy-whose-name-evades-me-because-i-didnt-really-go-to-his-lectures) 1m03 testing was mostly multiple choice and i THINK there was some short answer

I've had Nejat and Quinn
Nejat - He has a very heavy accent, and has a way of pronouncing things that makes it almost impossible to understand what he's saying 90% of the time. Although he seems like a really jolly guy while lecturing, he's actually kind of rude when you speak to him in office hours. He's also very unwilling to answer questions. Fortunately, he makes really good powerpoint slides, so just rely on those for studying for tests.
Quinn - good lecturer, but his test questions on the bio 1m03 test were extremely hard! and not hard because they were very thought-provoking, but hard because they were based on material that had been lightly touched upon. During lecture, i strongly advise that you note down every detail he throws out at you.
hope this helped.

I didn't have Stone, but definitely watch out for Quinn. Last year, he made his questions ridiculously long and complicated even when testing little things, so much that everyone felt they ran out of time on the midterm (his response was "sorry guys, I guess I made the test too long" ). But his exam questions weren't too bad, so maybe he learned to write better questions and you won't get screwed by Quinn ...or maybe not...

I had Stone for a 3rd year course so I don't know how relevant this is to you for a first year bio course, but he had multiple choice and written answers. Written answers were very simple, couple word answers. MC questions were truly MULTIPLE choice, as in multiple right answers, which kinda sucks. Again, I don't know that he would do the same for a 1st year course..
Nejat gives MC tests, I don't know which physics you're referring to, but for 1B03 i think it was like 15 MC questions with tests worth 15%, for 1BB3 it was more questions, 17 questions, worth some odd 14% of your grade. His questions are not that difficult, but you need to read the questions carefully. Also, make sure you understand the CAPA problems and can do them - they are typically more difficult than the midterm/exam questions, so being able to do those is a good indication of how well you will do.

Nejats a really nice guy. I took 1BB3 with him and his tests werent that bad. A few tricky questions here and there but mostly easy. He picks on people in the class so be prepared to answer questions or look like a moron infront of the whole class.

I really liked Poinar! I though he was a great prof, he really made the course interesting ( for me at least)
Dr. Nejat.. Let's just say is I was terrfied of taking Physics 1L03 for the pure reason I would have him as my prof..luckily I got Laura instead. Dogged a bullet there!
