Group work is a necessary evil when it comes to education as well as the field it is trying to prepare you for. In most cases you will have to work w/ other people on projects and be responsible for making it work.

I understand that some people take advantage of group work and let others prop them, but i can assure you that those kinds of people don't last very long in the real world.

So far my group's 'attempts' are pure shit (mostly involve incoherently copying and pasting the example I gave them, or doing super shit looking and wrong rough drafts by hand and scanning them to me at 3:00 AM with the request that I put them in Visio). Thing's due tomorrow :/.

I talked to the prof and he's all like "Yup... reminds me of when I was in university doing group work... important life skills to learn I guess?".

Ya, so basically I feel like a captain standing at the control deck watching as his ship sinks. I don't think I've ever been ****ed over quite so hard in school work before. I almost feel like getting up and walking away; accepting my loss of 20%.

Feels bad man.
don't put their name in the final thing.

Well, we're not forced to do group-work. But just working on the material with others is always a good thing, I find...

My brother's friend's project partner was deported back to India mid course, so I guess it could be worse.

That's probably one of the best things that can happen imo, you get to work by yourself for the rest of it!

Wonder how good an excuse that would make for extensions

"I only have half the work done sir because my partner got deported."

Better than "my dog ate it."

Points for originality?

You're not forced to do group work. You're not forced to go to University either. You're also not forced to get out of your bed in the morning. Everything is up to you..

You can choose to do everything or you can do nothing at all.

You are forced to do group work. It's part of the assignment and it will affect your grade and, in many cases, your GPA and life later on. If you give a crap about your life, then you are forced to do it.

People who come up with crap like "oh I don't have to do anything, I'm in university, hurr hurr" are exactly the ones I hate to work with. They have no sense of responsibility nor do they show any regard for others.

No one comes near you and puts a knife on your throat. The system doesn't force you, you CHOOSE to do it.

You are probably forcing yourself to do it, but that's pathetic.

The system does force you.

I want to certain life/job after university. Said job requires I do well in school. If I just don't do something becuase I don't feel like it, I am effectively ending that life. Not doing a group project (an important one at least) is career suicide because my performance in that project will affect what I can do after university.

So yes, I am forced to do them by the system because the system demands certain academic standards. I cant screw off and do whatever I please. But at least I have the motivation to put up with group project BS to reach my goals. I am anything but pathetic because I have the drive to do things I don't like to do and make sacrifices. I am determined enough to fight for what I want, and not give up because "oh, I don't like group projects" or "no one's checking my homework everyday so I don't have to do it"

Honestly, reading you're replies, I'm wondering if you're trolling, because no one makes it through university with that kind of mentality.

diagrams = fail. I dont know why they insist on them. If you want to draw something you draw it. This is bad engineering at work.

He was allowed to pass the course with a 1, that's the only slack the prof cut him.

You are FORCING yourself. Oh Nature what have you done....

The system doesn't force you. You chose to follow the system. You could work at Macdonalds, but you chose University and a particular program.

You don't have to do anything, that's what being free is about.

I go to school because I want to, not because I have to. If let's say I get kicked for some reason, I would move on and follow the END GOAL I set for myself.

When you go to University, you are made aware that group work is a part of some courses but you aren't Forced to do them.

Go look for the verb force in the dictionary. You seem like a brainwashed slave of the system and of yourself.

However, you are Forced to go to High school in some way.
