Turnitin doesn't look at citations. It looks for similarities in text, verbatim or nearly so. It will also pull the source of whatever statement you made that matches. Over-sourcing doesn't really matter, as far as turnitin is concerned. The report/score need to be taken in context. If you quoted something and cited it, it'll still show up as a match, but your prof or whoever would look at that and not care.

Only people who plagarize should worry about the results of turnitin. Merely getting a high percentage will not automatically cause you to get a 0, it has to be reviewed and determined actually academically dishonest.

cant you submit it in once every 24 hours. thats how my class for it was so it didnt matter if you were over a certain percentage unless it was the day of the deadline or your last submission.

The prof has to allow multiple submissions. And you can resubmit as frequently as you like, but it can take up to 24 hours for it to give you the report. The longest one ever took me was about 19 hours, though, and it was the third submission.

I did an assignment and got 23% or 40% once, and I didn't copy it. The percent was so high because the topic was more generic than Rob Schneider movies.
So yeah, soon there will be point when most topics will be covered in most of ways, so there will be no point in turnitin.com because there's only so many ways to talk about a topic.

I am not technically afraid of it but one of my class (Psycholinguistics) uses this and I submit my scientific writing assignment to it. I surely don't like viewing the comments the TAs make because it makes me feel intimidated when I see my mistakes...

I've only ever had one assignment checked by turnitin, and the similarities found were entirely because the works cited list had references very similar to those found on other sites lol. scared me for a moment. so yeah, I think the prof's final interpretation is pretty important.
