Applying for Residence too late?
All the universities decisions must be made by May 28th.

So as long as I accept the offer by the 28th, am I gaurenteed a spot at the Residence?

Is the selection 100% random or is it first-come better-res basis?

You can select a roomate of your own right? (like your friend)

Thanks.

To be guaranteed a spot in res you need to apply separately, it's not enough to simply accept the offer. You are also guaranteed a spot if you have at least a 78% average (provided you apply).

You can apply here: https://residence.mcmaster.ca /Default.aspx?Params=L 9ezxPcQnQvKnXsUHaBn65 ZMeJ6%2fb2QcWNX7VeZs0 4E%3d

There's a lottery system in place to determine which res you're in, but when you apply for res you can rank your preferences. When the lottery gets to you, if your first choice is available they put you there. If it's not they move onto your second choice, etc.

If you and a friend request each other AND all your preferences are the same, then they'll put you together.

You can check out the housing website for more information: http://housing.mcmaster.ca/

You can no longer rank which residence you would prefer. You can choose the type of room you would like and if it's substance free and such though.

I lived in Edwards just this year and the fact there there is no ac didn't matter. It's fall/winter after all. I found that if I left the window open a crack, like barely open, that the ventilation was good (with a fan of course), and the temperature was always nice. The only time when I felt discomfort was that one day during exam time when the humidity was like 90%.

Don't be too worried about ac. I lived in keyes this year and they had the ac off all spring.

The walls are white concrete, not the best looking but you can always put up posters. The beds don't look too old, although I'm sure they are. I believe they just put in the carpet either last year or the year before. I suggest bringing your own mini-vacuum and to vacuum every week or two because the carpet's color hides dust and yes dust is quite a problem in Edwards. You'll see dust on top of your shelves and desk. Not sure if it's the same in other residences, I really don't know where the dust is coming from... The washrooms didn't look too great in the beginning, but you easily get used to it.
