Applying to Second Year Programs
Hi,

I'm in first year Social Sciences, and I was wondering if applying to a second year program is a MUST. I know what program I want to go into but, I don't have the CA to apply this year and wanted to apply second year and take substitute pre-requisites in my second year. This will theoretically enroll me to level III of the program in my third year.

However, if I pick a program to go into second year, my options for electives (to take the substitute courses - to get into the program I really want to get into) will be limited.

What is the best choice I can pick at this point? Who can I see/contact to see if this is a possible option for me?

If you don't select/aren't accepted into a program, you will just be in a general social science degree. Best thing would be to just take all the courses as if you were in your program of choice, and apply for it in 2nd year IMO.

I agree with the above poster. Just take the courses needed for the program you really want as if you are in that program and apply then. If you really need more advice, talk to the SocSci Academic Advisors. They will greatly help you in this type of situation.

But be careful, some courses require you to be in a specific program to take them.
For example, a prerequisite for CourseX 2xx3 is registration in CourseX. So if you're not in that program, you may not be able to get into all the second year courses required to get you into the 3rd year courses you will need once you do get into that program.

A better idea would be to apply for a general B.A program (easier to get into), then if your second year marks go up, switch to an honour program.

@SweetyTweety

Thank you. Yes, I do realize that some courses are only allowed under specific program registration. I did do some research however, and the courses I want as substitutes, only require first pre-requisites which I already have. Now only thing to hope for are empty spots!

Also, if I apply to a general BA program... well isn't it still pretty much focused on one subject, where I would be require to take most of my units from that subject, leaving me with limited electives?
