avenue
I just logged in to avenue for the first time and I saw there was 44 messages
there some random messages that I think people posted why is that showing up on my account?
also on the front page there is course list of Chem 1A03, Physics 1B03, Psych 1X03, which are 3 of my courses I'm going to take
but under psych 1X03 there is a link to 3 quizzes what are these?
Or is it too early for me to be logging on to avenue
EDIT: also is avenue the new elm??
is elm not going to be used for upcoming term?

In addition to course specific discussion boards there are also general discussion boards. People just post in the wrong ones sometimes.
The quizzes are probably practice, just ignore them until school starts and see what your professor/TA says.
Edit: Yes, Avenue is replacing ELM. I believe ELM is being shutdown in the middle of August.

Yeah, but that's the homepage. You literally look at it for 1 second before you login. They probably have it set up like that because it's the best way to post up new about avenue. No need to scroll and it's right new to the login button.

You will most likely have majority of your courses on Avenue. Any assignments, marks, etc will be posted/done on Avenue unless otherwise stated by the prof for the course.
Don't worry about it, you will understand it when classes/assignments begin - the professor for each course will mention it.

It's a place for all/most of your courses to put course material such as notes, grades, quizzes, readings, a discussion board, announcements, etc. The exact usage of it depends on the prof--some rely heavily on it, while others don't. Last year, we had something called ELM which was an epic fail, because it couldn't handle the traffic it was getting. The year before that, we had WebCT, but that stopped being supported by the vendor (among other things) so we had to get rid of it. If you hear anyone tell you to check ELM or WebCT, they probably mean Avenue
