debatable.... Political ideology in the states is much more "neo-liberal" than it is in Canada, however we have seen a more progressive shift with the Conservative Party and a more conservative(small c) shift with a left leaning tint in the Obama policies.

Okay well the Obama policies don't actual fit under any particular categories. He is all over the map, and not true to his rhetoric when campaigning for the Democratic candidacy.

Yeah he hasn't really done anything making him a small "c" conservative, and the only policies he has slightly tried to push are fairly left leaning

Your arguement is also a very horrible one. Instead of attacking my arguement and proving why $5 is not a bad thing, you switch subjects which have nothing to do.
Ya, I agree with you. 5$/month in extra utility definitely sucks for us students.

Here's one argument for the HST: http://www.nationalpost.com/related/...tml?id=2182853. You pay GST+PST anyway but businesses may benefit more from HST. They must've voted on it for a reason.

Conservatives are no better.

Oh for sure! There are a ton of benefits to the HST, only problem is they are not curbing out the negatives. If it is going to be cheaper for the government to run then why not pass those savings on to the tax payer instead of keeping the tax rate set? Also what about the products that were half taxed now fully taxed? but again this increase is not being addressed by any reduction. It is a way to seek extra funds. This means more money to cover up the poor fiscal sense they have(or cunning fiscal sense, hiding their wages which are over and above the cap in hospital costs)

Again it does have benefits but mainly for small businesses(big businesses wont find much of a change since their tax system is highly efficient usually)

Definitely, I'm all for less taxes (more libertarian than liberal/conservative). Returning funds to tax-payer would be a much better option because we would ALL benefit.

So, what happens to the GST rebate the low income individuals receive?
