"A Balanced Course Load"
Is it possible to have 18 units for semester 1 and 12 units for semester 2? According to the Requirements Handout, a balanced course load is required. However, SOLAR seems to accept my timetable of 18-12, as long as I don't exceed 30 units.

An 18-12 schedule seems to be the only plausible action for me, with the following courses:

Bio 1M03
Math 1A03
Psych 1X03
Physics 1B03
Chem 1A03
Religion 1B06

Psych 1XX3
Chem 1AA3
Bio 1A03
Religion 1B06

Would you say this semester is feasible? Too hard?

Out of the first semester, only Bio 1M03 or Physics 1B03 can be taken second semester. However, both have full classes for 2nd term, and it is highly encouraged that Bio 1M03 and 1A03 are not taken in the same term. I am hoping to minor in religion, and as such, do not want to cut Religion 1B06.

Also, I want to have the option to enroll into Level 2 - Honours Chemistry, which requires a credit in either Physics 1BB3 or 1BA3. Is it possible to take one of these courses in summer school after Level 1, and still be considered for the Level 2 Chemistry program? My course load would exceed 30 units if I took it during the day.

I've had your term 1 minus religion. It's very doable for only the 5 courses. I guess if you add religion in, it should be too bad but it'll probably be hard.

Well... 18 units in one term is a lot, and since this is your first year I wouldn't recommend it. Seeing as you want to only minor in religion, have you thought about taking it in the summer next year? Focus foremost on what you need to take for Honours Chem, that is if you're sure that's what you want to major in.

Oh also, yeah you can take a course in summer and then enroll in the program afterwards, but you have to speak to your academic advisor first and let him/her know of your plans.

You could try contacting the Faculty of Science, explaining your situation and seeing if they'll open a seat for you in Physics in 2nd semester.

I was going to suggest this.

I wouldn't recommend having an overloaded semester in first year.

If you explain that you require the course and taking it in 2nd term would stop you from having to overload they might open up a seat for you in the 2nd term class.

That said since you have an elective in first term you might just be required to drop that and pick a new one to balance out your schedule.

Thanks a lot for your replies. Regardless of my options, I presume the only thing I can do is check SOLAR for available spots every night, and call the registry.

Religions in summer school sounds very intriguing, I'll definitely look into that. Thanks a lot

On that note, does anyone know who I should call, and their contact information please?
Probably... the Physics department? Try them first. Call or e-mail. http://physwww.physics.mcmas ter.ca/?page=contact.html

I really hate morning lectures, I think anything from 1-6pm everyday is considered good.

Why don't you guys organize something, set a time and day and switch terms. You should plan everything over MSN though.

Note: There are risks to this, someone may randomly be on and take the seats.

Yeah you guys could plan to do this. If you go on SOLAR at a random off-peak time it would probably work out.

That said even if for some freak reason you both lose your spots in the course it's required so you could get back in and possibly each of you could get into the term you want if both are full.

You should try it.

Ah, that is true! I forgot that the course is required, good catch ^-^

I am totally up for the switch.

In another note, is it possible to take a 6 unit course in summer school? If I drop Religions 1B06, how long would such a course be in summer school?
