Well, there's Starbucks on Locke Street (note: I'm not a hipster. I just love bold coffee.).
Other than that, there's one near the Island Inkjet in Westdale, which I forget the name of (just opened).
And I've heard Bad Dog cafe on Locke St. is good, and has a cool atmosphere.

i like "house of java" on james street south. it's about halfway between downtown and st. joseph's hospital on the west side of the street. it's one of the kewl little "hole in the wall" shops that go along that entire area. you can sit down inside and enjoy and they have specialty coffees.

There's also the Skydragon Centre, which has a small cafe and is one of my favorites. It's on Kingwilliam street, just off of James Street.

You call that coffee? It only tastes acceptable with a double-double.
I know it's sacrilege, but I find their coffee watery and weak.

No.
I hate coffee, worked there for 2 years, and I know what we did to the products.

I agree... it tastes like dirt, and I don't understand how people seem to enjoy it so much!

Addiction! haha.
It's a like a lot of things though...it seems to be a bit of an acquired taste. Like olives, or wine.

That's because most brewed coffee is dirt
I've had good luck with the Van Houtte coffee on campus. Try it out in JHE or ETB. Some very nice roasts there.
And if you're just starting out, try the Hazelnut stuff in JHE with some sugar and milk. It's very tasty.
