Bio 1A03 1st or 2nd term? ZHU!
Hey so I noticed that first semester Zhu/Kajiura teaches Bio 1A03, and second semester its Wilson/Kajuira. I looked up on Rate My Prof and Zhu was rated a 1, and is apparently a horrible teacher. http://www.ratemyprofessors. com/Sh...p?tid=8 17062
Should I take Bio 1M03 first semester to avoid Zhu? Suggestions would be great thanks!

Wilson is also rumoured to be tough. I only had Kajiura, not Wilson or Zhu. But both Bios are fairly straightforward if you really really study all the material they mention (even if its "just once" in class). Bio 1M03 is lighter, I found. I wouldn't recommend going on the profs as much as I would advise going on the difficulty of your other courses. I.e. if you have a hard semester, go with Bio 1M03.

well, if u think logically, it is extremely difficult for a teacher to get 1.0 overall, that means all her 20 ratings r all 1s. Which means sumthin is wrong with the ratin

Nothing is wrong with the rating? If you look up other teachers you will rarely see less than a 3.0, but the comments are legit and i'm just not sure what to think about Zhu, she's the only one thats had a horrid rating by tons of people

dushoff and kolasa are teaching 1m03 in term 1 and both are good. if u take 1a03 in term 1, u get zhu and in term 2 wilson and none of them are good as far as i have heard. so dosent matter when you take 1a03. but for m03 term 1 profs are good and stone and quinn are teaching it in term 2. i had quinn for 1m03 and i would rather die than take his course again and i have heard that stone is very boring. so if i was in your place, i would take 1m03 in term 1 and 1a03 in term 2
MY PERSONAL OPINION

Ah yes, definitely go with Dushoff and Kolasa. It's not as easy as people might make it out to be but they're definitely very fair and a good grade is completely possible.

I had Wilson and Kajiura for my Bio 1A03, and Wilson was definitely tough.
It was a weird combination, but I found Wilson's Multiple choice questions really hard, while her written answer questions were pretty good.
But if Zhu really has a rating of 1, I just u take Wilson and Kajiura, theyre rally not that bad!

The biggest problem with Dr. Wilson IMO is not her "difficulty," but rather how.. uncharasimatic her lecturing is. She is honestly the most boring professor I ever had to endure. By the end of the semester it'd be lucky for 1/3 of the people in the class to show up to lecture..

It's a good opportunity to see if you can learn the material on your own. If you are half asleep during her lectures you aren't efficiently learning. You might as well just not go and learn the material on your own. If you have any difficulties there are plenty of resources you can use.

Oh I absolutely agree. I counted myself as one of the 2/3 of the class that usually skipped :p
I practically skipped half of 2nd year because I felt I could do more/work better at home, and I still maintaned a 10+ average =D

The ratings for Dr Zhu on ratemyprofs are for a 3rd year bio course, they're not very relevant to you because 3rd yr courses have to be much harder than a first-year bio course. So I wouldn't rely on the ratings if I were you...

Me too, sure it is a third year bio class but if you read on it talks about her teaching style, and rating her as a prof. not so much about which class she teaches.

It does matter. I liked Wilson when she taught Bio 1A03 but when I had her for Bio 2A03 it was terrible :\
