I was told in advance that any printed procedures in the book would result in your lab notebook being confinscated, but you would still be allowed to write the exam. if the TA didn't check your notebook you've gotten off scot-free. In the future make the effort to properly prepare your notebook. It really doesn't take that long.

^ This is true, but none of the TA's actually did an active check of the lab notebooks in my test room.
