bio2ee3 midterm
So Dr. Finan is teaching the course this year and I believe it's his first time teaching this course. The midterm is next Thursday. For anyone who has had him in the past for other courses, what's his testing style like? Does he like to test on details?? Are most of the questions from his lectures or the textbook?
Thanks!

I actually had someone else for microbio, but the course itself is very difficult. There is a lot to memorize, and the textbook is very dry. They don't call it microbio if they don't test you on the tiniest details . Maybe Finan will be better, but when Xu taught it, the course was a nightmare.

judging based on his testing style, I hope his test is not a painful and slow death.

Finan will be better just on the basis of being a native English-speaker alone. Dr. Xu was very hard to listen to and understand. I also found that language barriers often prevented him from being able to answer my questions. He often couldn't comprehend what i was asking.

Memorize as much as you can and know the marking scheme. The year I took the course, a wrong answer was actually worth negative marks (guessing penalty). If it is still like that don't stab in the dark, even though it's MC.

So I had it last week and it wasn't bad at all! His questions are not detail orientated and are pretty straight forward. However that doesn't mean you can fly through it without studying. Read the textbook and go over practice questions that he posts online and you will be fine. For the people who decide to take it in the future for whatever reason, definitely take it with Finan. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread!
