Biology 3ZZ3

I took this in 08/09 with Dr. McClelland and Dr. O'Donnell.

Essentially you have speakers come in to present their research. There's no textbook required for the course, but you should do the readings ahead of time. According to the new class manual there are quizzes prior to the start of every class.

With any paper-based course, the things you should focus on the most are the intro, discussion, and abstract to get the gist of the topic. McClelland didn't really ask questions about methodology, but O'Donnell did.

We had to write essays in the past and give presentations, but I think this has been scrapped. The finals were a combination of multiple choice with a large emphasis on long-answer questions. But as long as you did the readings and paid attention during lecture they were fair.

It's good prep for individuals interested in research. Also it teaches skimming strategies when writing your final thesis.

Does anyone have an updated review of this course?
What are the tutorials like?
And how is class participation graded? (Is it based on presentations, participating in discussions frequently or both?)

Thanks in advance

For anyone who is interested the course outline is out: http://www.biology.mcmaster. ca/ima...02012 -13.pdf
Seems like they've brought back the presentation and report writing component the Lois had mentioned in the description.
