I'm sure the birds aren't stupid enough to starve themselves to death. A lot of them are quite capable in human environments, and I'm sure they get by just fine, whether it be winter break or summer season.
And for the record, peacocks and elephants are horrible ideas, even as jokes.

They are like Canadian Geese in that sense...
OOH, I had a Canadian Goose walk up to me a couple weeks ago. It was strange because it wasn't hissing at me either.

Really? That must be quite a story. I'd ask for you to elaborate if you're okay with it. I always thought they were gentle.
Note to self: peacocks are not a good idea on campus; Lorend is particularly at risk.

I don't have good luck with birds. Particular enemies: Canadian Geese, Wild Turkeys.
Anywhoo, I was in Florida with my parents when I was fourteen, and we were at one of the water parks in Disneyworld (which has now been shut down). I was walking up something to go to a slide area, and I saw a peacock. I tried to keep going. It didn't like that. It charged me. I ran.

I seem to recall a story about wild turkey's chasing you around your family's property when you were a kid too...
Ahem. Lorend's plastic turkey. My cat Sylvester. In our living room. We also have a couch dragon.

A friend's property, but yep. We do happen to have quite a few close to my house but thankfully not THAT close. A few minutes away by car though. But it's not plastic. It's...rubber-y? Decoy material.
In case you're all wondering...yes my mother bought me that as a birthday present last year to mock me and my hatred of wild turkeys. those bastards.
And you're neglecting the whore cat.
