According to the Titles (bookstore) website the book listings for Fall 09 will be up August 17th so you still have to wait a bit longer. Once that day hits just go to Titles website (http://titles.mcmaster.ca I think) and the list will likely be advertised right on the front page.

The list is actually already advertised on the front page, you just have to wait for it to be updated. Right now if you click it is still the Spring/Summer 09 book listings.

Don't buy your books until after the first class!

Check out your course outline and see exactly what's in there for readings. Sometimes a professor might mark a book as required when it's not and you'll end up spending more money than you have to.

Be careful when buying custom courseware as well, since it's non-refundable.

Yeah, and make sure you buy the correct custom course ware. I accidentally bought the wrong physics course ware and I had to sell it >.>

I don't know, I never had problems with buying books before class. I just didn't buy courseware right away. But I mean, I guess it could happen that a prof changes the textbook but who knows.

Even if a book isn't required, I say everything helps, and you can always sell it back.

I guess I'm just a jaded Cultural Studies student. Most of the stuff I end up buying is crap.

Hmm, I don't think anyone can go wrong with buying the required textbooks ahead of time (i.e. as soon as the list comes out), correct?

Sometimes you don't have to use the book. I've never opened my chemistry book...

Agreed. I've taken courses where the professor will tell you in the first week that the textbook is not necessary or than an older version of the textbook will be sufficient.

yes you can, the fist year Life Sci book list is gonna cost you at least $800 if you buy everything, go to class and talk to upper years before buying anything, you can get through some courses with no course ware at all (ex. Psych 1X03/1XX3).

Yeah, I didn't use the custom courseware for psych either...
