Are books more expensive this year, or is it just me?
I added up FIRST TERM ONLY books.. and it's $855 plus tax. Is it just me, or is that absolutely ridiculous?
My boyfriend is in third year Engineering, and HIS books are under $1000 for the entire year. Last year, my books were only $700 for the entire year.
Is it just the classes I'm taking, or are everyone's seeming to be ridiculously priced?

That is rather pricy. What courses are you taking? Keep in mind that text books aren't cheap.

Mine are usually around 900 dollars for the entire year so yeah, if that's only for one semester thats... not cool.

I got 585.50$ for first term with only the required materials. With the optional (not including the ones that come in the required packages) it comes out to 971.70$. So I guess I'll stick with the required Lol

Don't buy optional, trust me, it's likely you won't read it anyway

I'm taking:
PolSci 3LL3 (Development and Public Policy)
History 3P03 (Religion and Society in Canada)
Geography 3HH3 (Geography of Health)
PolSci 3N06 (Stats)
French 1K06
Anthropology 2G03 (Myths)
The ones that are really sending me overboard are Stats (which I have to take) and History (which is an elective). Pretty much all my classes except PolSci are electives. I would switch out of the expensive ones, but my schedule is so packed, literally NOTHING else will fit.
And yes, these are all required texts. :(
I'm being optimistic. Some books are in the library, some have used books in Titles and some have used in the classifieds. I definately can't afford $900 for one term. I wish professors would think about this kind of thing..

definately try your best to find used books then. i'm sure you can find some upper years that are selliing their books.
sometimes if you have friends that brought it and they are nice enough, you can borrow it from them.

I can't borrow books from friends because I keep them. I rarely sell my books back, with the exception of some of my first year books. That and I write in them like mad.
You'd think the English kids would revere their books, no, we murder them.

it's not just you...i just calculated the cost of my books for first term, and it came up to about $1119.80 if i buy new, and $845.50 if i buy used. aand by the looks of it, that is not normal. not to mention that these are all required texts too!

If it's courseware that you need - encourage your prof to look into getting it printed at the MSU undergroud instead of titles because they'll be prettifuller and cheaper.
The MSU Undercovers store also should have some good deals come september
I'd recommend waiting on buying your texts as the prof might change versions..
Lastly, you always have the option of not buying your text and taking out the copy that the library carries! =P

Taking it out from the library is a good option but it has it's problems as well... obviously being that you can't keep it all year cause other people might need it as well.
