Don't go there with that "at least you're not in my program crap" each program pays a crap load for books. Yes some of my books are 10 dollars each, but I read about 8-12 novels + and anthology per literature course. Science books: there's not that many but they cost you an arm and a limb.

Why are books so expensive? Cause they can. Even if you look on Amazon and stuff, the books that you can find on there are usually the same price. Remember in high school they said if you lose the textbook you have to pay 50-75 dollars? That was usually at the school boards discount.

i bought 3 books on ebay this year for 10 bucks a piece when titles wanted 150+ for each, they are older editions but it is still pretty much the same as the current edition. I spend 150$ total on 5 classes and that included me buying a math book at titles for 100$ because I couldn't find a cheap one online

wow that is pretty good. I was going to take a comparative literature course (dropped it in a week though) and the text book cost almost 60 dollars. BUT the course was on old literature and you can find most of them at second hand stores (they always seem to be there when I look)... and the rest online

i don't really want to buy my multimedia book -_- i think i might split the cost with one of my friends and share with her

I have bought two textbooks so far for $300, and have four remaining for almost $500 more. Nursing is crazy though. :|

Is that over $1000 for just one term? :S

I definitely agree that textbooks are always very costly. I was very happy when I only spent $20 on a course (for five new novels).

I would highly recommend trying to scrounge out all possible avenues of buying old textbooks to save money. You probably shouldn't do this for custom courseware because of copyright issues/specificity of school year and prof, but a lot of first and second year texts are sold used by upper year students on Learnlink, Titles Buyback Listings, Facebook, and some on Mac-Central and Macinsiders.

I've paid over $1000 for first term books in engineering. That's a slap in the face if I've ever seen one (well, not literally).

The underground prints courseware cheaper.. I know this is about text books but courseware will kill you too. Basically, for second semester, try and convince your profs to look into printing their courseware at the MSU's underground. The quality is hella better and is usually 20% cheaper. yaay!!
