I just checked and my application got approved yesterday for $3400. However, when I checked my student account, I still owe the same amount of money. How do they pay you the bursary amount?

It's usually automatic in terms of payment. If you still owe money to the school, the money you receive from the bursary will automatically go to your student account. If there is a different, SFAS will send you a cheque in the mail. If you don't owe money, then they'll send you a cheque with the full amount.

I still owe the school around $8000 so shouldn't it have decreased to around $4600? On MUGSI it says the payment date is Feb 12 2014.

It might have changed since last year, because the same thing happened with OSAP (before, it would automatically pay off your account and send you the remainder, but now you received the full amount by direct deposit and it's your responsibility to pay the school the tuition fees).

The first gen bursary isn't different from the McMaster bursary. It's just what I selected from the drop down menu when I applied.
Hopefully that clears up any confusion...
