Hey guys I applied to be a CA and was recently notified that I am on the alternate list. does anybody know anything about what it means to be on the alternate list and what are the chances of being chosen to be a CA for the upcoming school year. Essentially, should start looking for off campus housing rn???

I'd say maybe only a small few get off the alternate list. If you were chosen to be a CA, you probably would not withdraw. Some people do withdraw, but very rarely. And plus you don't know how far along you are on the alternate list. So you might as well get a look at housing now (if you're willing to do a 12 month lease). Otherwise look for something during the summer months for an 8 month lease.
