campus health...a little disturbing event
So i went to campus health today and the nurse took my temperature using the thermometer that goes in under the tongue and then without cleaning it, she put it back...
I find this a little disturbing considering the fact that the tongue sits on top of the sensor and that multiple people probably have their temp checked in a day...

They're always required to use a cover on those things. If she doesn't use it, don't let her put it in your mouth!

You guys are misinformed.
The new device, which was purchased recently this year, does not need a normal cover. Its surface is coated with a brand new anti-bacteria and anti-virus coating develop by T-Fal (maker of Teflon coating). Under many studies, including a long term 10 years observation, it was found that no micro-organism was able to adhere to the surface for more than 0.0001 micro-second.
In short, nothing can stick on to the thermometer for there to be any transmission.
Furthermore, the holder has a automatic sonic cleaning function that sterile and refresh the device after each usage. You might have noticed a minty smell to it when it was used as a result of this.
New procedures was circulated as a result of this new technology. Perhaps the confusion and shock was due to it not being advertise properly

This is definitely the type of thing that you should at the very least send an email to campus health about. If she does this often, the chances of cross contamination and possible spreading of disease warrant some action.

Not ignoring, but in order to believe it I would need to see the paper that shows the results of this 10 year study.

PHLN...you're right, because McMaster uses cooking thermometers on their students, and this cleaning tech exists even though T-Fal's thermometers are less than on par with their other brand competitors.
P.S I know you're kiddingYeah.

A combination of his post sounding like BS, as well as a google search for T-Fal Anti-Bacterial OR anti-viral coating coming up with no relevant results led me to believe he was lieing...
