Can we still change courses after Aug 1?
There's a course I'd like to get in, but it's full. I've contact the department heads but they haven't replied yet. Maybe because today's a holiday? So I was wondering...
Can I still change courses after Aug 1, after I've confirmed the payment agreement?
Also, does anyone have any opinions on the following professors? : ) Thank you for your help!!
BIO 1A03
- Kajiura
- Zhu
- Wilson
BIO 1M03
- Stone
- Kolasa
- Quinn
- Evans

Yep, you can change courses and even core/tutorial/lab sections starting Aug 10th after timetable release.

About the profs:
Kajiura I didn't really like, but a lot of other people did. I found she was kind of patronizing at times and she promotes a lot of her own stuff during the year (iGnite). Also, I thought her cancer "group project" thing was kind of stupid...I mean if licensed and experienced doctors can't find a cure, how are first year kids with barely any knowledge supposed to?
For 1M03, unless you like evolution and ecology, this will be the driest course you'll ever take. And even if you like evolution and ecology, Stone will make you hate it. He's a terrible prof; he literally copies and pastes the textbook onto slides and then reads them word for word during lectures. And don't even get me started on his exam questions. Quinn was a better prof, but he taught ecology, which I hated. I basically skipped half of the lectures in that semester.

Yes you can still change your courses but right now SOLAR is closed for timetable making. So your current timetable will be released August 8 and August 10 SOLAR will open again for you to change your sectioning (e.g. core, lab, tutorial times) and at this time you can change whatever courses you want.
In terms of professors:
BIO 1A03
- Kajiura (Very straight forward teaching and tests; gives you notes where you have to go into class and fill in the blanks she provides in the lecture notes; you must go to lectures because she'll test stuff that she mentions in class but aren't on the lecture notes)
- Zhu (Didn't have him/her)
- Wilson (Opinions vary but imo I really didn't like her. I found it very hard to learn from her and she didn't seem completely knowledgeable about some of the material; very condescending when answering questions as well and doesn't do a good job of re-explaining things if someone doesn't get it.)
BIO 1M03
- Stone (Don't know)
- Kolasa (Don't know)
- Quinn (Pretty okay prof. He's a good guy and can be funny. Has lots of stories to tell but I found his material dry and boring but that might just be my opinion. I had him on the evolution part of the course btw. There is some good information in there at times and his stories and pictures will keep you semi-entertained.)
- Evans (Don't know)

Yeah I would take those comments with a grain of salt. I looked at one of the profs ratings/comments and all I read was horrible things. Turned out to be a really nice prof and one of the best at lecturing imo. I guess people who fail the course or whatever take their rage out on that site sometimes haha.
Some ways to find out which prof's are good are obviously reviews on this site or you can ask upper years. Also, if there are multiple profs teaching the same course drop into each of their classes for the first week or so and see which one you prefer!

Hi again lol! 8D
I've heard mixed opinions of Kaj, but that cancer group project thing does sound rather stupid. XD I hope your class didn't end up losing marks because of it lol. It seems she's teaching both terms so I might not be able to escape her, but I really hope she won't include that project this year. ):
Aw, I was really hopeful for Quinn because I heard pretty good reviews on him. But then again, I only asked one person I already know at Mac about the Bio professors so... lol. I've never really liked ecology though, even that tiny bit in the final days of Grade 12 couldn't peak my interest. Oh boy, okay, this is definitely going to be the driest course in first year.

LOL, that's a good suggestion, but wouldn't it be too late to change teachers after classes have started? XD

Actually take a look at the link jhan523 has provided a few posts above. You have until September 16 to add/drop courses with absolutely no penalty. Besides, even if you are registered in one prof's class but find that another prof's method of lecturing is better than just go to their class if your timetable permits it and there is no attendance mark bs. Also remember that students registered in the class have priority lol. If the class is packed and seats are full then I guess your sol.

I don't think I'll get along with Wilson very well then.. XD I guess Kajiura is the best bet, despite her patronizing. *Crosses fingers*
For Quinn, the way you described him reminds me of one of my past Bio teachers in HS. The guy had a lot of stories that got in the way of the teaching (inevitably, I left every class frustrated beyond belief), I hope Quinn isn't like that lol. XD
