Do you want to learn how to solve bigger cubes (4x4 to 7x7) or other mechanical puzzles, like the pyraminx or megaminx?

If you answered yes to any of the questions above, then you should check the Rubik's Cube. No previous knowledge required. Zero fees to join. We're having a general meeting this monday at 6 pm, so make sure to drop by if you're interested.

We plan on having bi-weekly meetings throughout the year, where we plan to cover anything related to mechanical puzzles, but for this event, we'll focus only on 3x3 and 4x4 cubes.

So what's the catch?
You have to bring your own cube. As a new club, we haven't received any funding from McMaster yet, so for now if you want to come (and not get bored) it is recommended that you bring your own cube. Eventually, we'll have cubes that will be for everyone to use. If you don't have a rubik's cube, you can get your own at game stores, toy stores, walmart, etc, for like 8 bucks. They're not very hard to find.

Noooo! I left my cube at home. I've always wanted there to be a Rubik's club :'D.

Not only did I not bring my Rubik's cube, I'm busy that day too. :( Probably buy a 4x4 or bigger. Always wanted to try and solve one of those.

Will there be a FB group or some sort of mailing list where we can get updates and such?

We booked a room on the second floor of the student centre 6 pm to 8 pm, but they haven't confirm it yet. I'll let everyone know as soon as we find out what the room number is.

Edit: also, you don't have to be there from 6 pm if you have classes, you can come in at 7, we're gonna be there for a while. You also don't have to be there for the whole thing either, if you need to leave early that's cool too.

We should totally have speed-cubing for the loser's lunch money.

Ooh, Redstarr, you should get a 5x5. It's easier than the 4x4 'cause there's no parity. You can pretty much solve it like a 3x3 :O.

Has anyone here solved the "Square1" cube? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Square_One_%28puzzle% 29 I got one at a yardsale for 25cents, haven't solved it yet...

Did a 3x3 regular twice... but takes me a while.

I'll try to make it out for the meetup; I'm looking for a better way to improve my times and being at Mac would give me a good excuse to go to class.

I'll try to bring a spare or two with me too if anyone shows up empty-handed.

Edit: So I totally forgot I have a concert to go to on the evening of October 1st. But if for some reason anyone's around/available on Thursday of that week, perhaps an impromptu mini-meetup can be arranged.

I have a 3x3 siamese rubik's cube (it has 4 attached blocks) that I cannot for the life of me solve, so I may drop in some time. likely not at the general meeting though.

also, try thrift stores for rubik's cubes, they're usually waaay cheaper.

Lurking~'cause I can't solve a cube (not the last time I tried, anyway, which was YEARS ago).

I had a couple Star War's 2x2 Rubik cubes when I was younger (puzzles? but they were solved like Rubik cubes), and a 3x3. But I never managed to solve any of them.

I'm thinking of dropping by too since this sounds really interesting, but I don't have a cube on me yet, so...

Ooh, I can sort of solve a square 1. I can return it to a cube-shape, but mine is just one colour. LOL

I've never had a square one, but it looks like you have to return it to a cube shape, and then you use the middle layer to swap the smaller pieces around.
