Canada Day with Fireworks at the Waterfront

Celebrate Canada Day with Fireworks and Family Fun at the Waterfront on Friday, July 1, 2016 at Bayfront (200 Harbourfront Drive) and Pier 4 (Leander Drive, west of Bay Street North) Parks.

This year, the City of Hamilton is pleased to welcome RBC as a presenting sponsor.

ENTERTAINMENT:

Family activities and entertainment throughout the parks will start at 4 p.m. and include: an interactive arts mural, aerial artists, face painters, balloonists and more!

FOOD:

Visitors can enjoy a huge selection of food trucks serving Southern BBQ, Mexican cuisine, Greek specialties, poutine, grilled cheese, locally roasted coffee, hot dogs, ice cream and more throughout the afternoon and evening. Most vendors accept cash only.

FIREWORKS:

The fireworks display will start at 10 p.m. Fireworks will be launched from the north-west point of Bayfront Park requiring a section of the park to be closed for public safety on Thursday, June 30 at 8 a.m. and reopening on Saturday, July 2 at 12 p.m.

Residents are reminded that personal fireworks and sparklers are not permitted in City parks or on City property. All City parks are smoke-free.

The Canada Day celebration and fireworks will proceed rain or shine. In the event of extreme weather such as high winds or lightning, the fireworks display only (and related transit services) will be rescheduled for Saturday, July 2 at 10 p.m. The Cancellation Hotline on July 1 only is 905-546-4646.

TRANSPORTATION:

The Canada Day fireworks draw over 35,000 people to the waterfront. Residents are strongly encouraged to walk, bike or take the FREE HSR shuttle bus to the event to minimize traffic, as there is limited public parking available in the area.

The shuttle bus service starts at the east side of John Street (just north of King Street) and ends in Pier 4 Park. Shuttle service begins at 4 p.m.

Signage will be posted at bus stop locations and route information is available at www.hamilton.ca/canadaday

Free Secure Bike Parking Service will be provided by Open Streets Hamilton and additional SoBi Hamilton Bike Share racks will be available at Bayfront and Pier 4 parks.

FOOD BANK DONATIONS:

Welcome Inn Community Centre’s Food Bank will be on hand to collect donations and non-perishable food items at the Bayfront and Pier 4 Information Tents. Welcome Inn Community Centre’s Emergency Food Bank serves over 14,000 people in Hamilton every year. Additional information about Welcome Inn’s programs and services can be found at www.welcomeinn.ca

The City of Hamilton gratefully acknowledges the financial support of the Government of Canada through the Department of Canadian Heritage in presenting the 2016 Canada Day Celebration.
