Chinese 1Z06
Anyone here taken Chinese 1Z06 (not 1ZZ6)?

I'm interested in taking it but I dont want to take it if it is just a shit show as I know some intro language courses are.

Is it worth it to take the class or would it be better to just break out the rosetta stone/find a girlfriend who speaks mandarin?

Thoughts?

I've heard very good things from both a non-native speaker as well as a dialect speaker in the class about the instructor this year, Li Li. To my knowledge all of the instructors of the nascent Chinese program (except for the director) are from Beijing Language and Culture University, an university that specializes in training teachers of Mandarin as a foreign language. Perhaps go in and talk to the instructor to get a feel for it?

This is the first year the program (and thus the class) is offered. From what I gather the class is fairly small (less than 40, unless there are multiple sections).

Do you want a sleeping dictionary of some sort Rossclot?

I do not understand what you are offering.

But I accept. (although I thought you hand a long term relationship going on, and I dont get in the way of that stuff)

I went to one of the film screenings the other day and met Li Li as well as Qian Guo. [Super friendly (and pretty)]. If they are the instructors the class should be good, they are both doing grad work in mandarin pedagogy. Now I just have to become one of the 40 that are let into the class.

hmmm....
