Thanks for your help
no, you need to get a copy of your own string(under help about) and just copy that and replace the corresponding part of the override value. Change windows as necessary.

sigh :(

i too had to install clean access agent today.... user agent string stopped working.... i wonder if loading up Ubuntu in virtual PC with network shared, authenticating, then going back to windows would work??? you get 3 hours out of the deal....(for those of whom clean access fails to work)

I notice that Clean access agent has been updated to be less picky. I used to not be able to authenticate because my windows wasnt up to date.. so i tried to update.. and still no avail.. i could only asume that it was due to having automatic updates completely disabled (far too anoying!)... so i used that user agent trick (this was last year). Now, without having done any updates since last year, it now works for me. Nod 32 antivirus and Kerio Sunbelt firewall.. odd really.

Clean access agent is just one more time consuming step to get online... needs to at least have an automatic login feature!

The user agent trick was actually a well documented bug since very early (3.x) versions of CAA http://www.securityfocus.com /archi.../30/0/threaded
The newest version of CAA our school uses is 4.1.3.

As snaps mentioned, and a website i just read confirmed that the new CAA does check UA string, TCP stack, AND javascript.... so definately not as easy as it once was, but it is still possible with much ado. I cannot recomend any of these activities, but google is your friend.

I doubt running Ubuntu in a Virtual PC would help simply because, from my understanding, Virtual PC will translate everything Ubuntu does into Windows commands / packets so to the network it still appears as if Windows is connected.

Alas poor useragent.override, I knew him well Horatio!

I don't know if it is just me, but it appears that a certain fix that once worked in the past is now working for me again.

I tried installing this, which may be helping the process along, but I'm pretty sure it's not working and the old 'fix' has been reactivated.

It may not be a good idea to link to that page (IMO)...... But if you take a look at the source code to that program, it uses a different Authorization Provider, namely ours is MACID and our URL is different as well. Therefore, it will not work for mcmaster. And the use of that program most likely violates mcmasters internet access policy.

Well, regardless, I'm able to log in without the access agent again.

Don't know if this will help, but a friend and I wrote this. It is a simple change to the registry and the user-agent switcher. I think the user-agent switcher in the file wont install anymore, so you need to download the latest one.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/59

Works great and I haven't had a problem with it

Cheers

Are you guys seriously still posting ways to get around CCAA on a forum that is obviously watched by UTS?

Sure, they can see it. Sure they can report it. They can fix it, in time. But that will take time.

Also, this is Cisco Clean Access Agent we are talking about, not UTS. UTS just uses CCAA. If UTS can come up with something better...that would be a change.

I had issues with Cisco Clean Access Agent on my windows machine because of a few hacks I did. I helped another person because his version of XP comes from China and it didn't work on MacConnect as a result. There are reasons why CCAA doesn't work in all situations.

I followed the steps in Windows Vista 32bit and I still have to use CAA.

Sometimes when I start firefox to log in , and use the switcher to switch the system to some made up Linux string, it doesn't notice and tells me to download Cisco access fail. If I press back though, and try again, it works.

Make sure you guys are actually switching the string when you start up firefox. You have to add one in that doesn't include the word "windows" as I believe it doesn't automatically include one.

It doesn't just work automatically after installing...
