Class on Jan 3 2011?
Do classes start on Jan. 3 2011 or is this a public holiday for schools as well?

What's the holiday? I think the only day you actually need to get off is New Year's and since that happens on a Saturday anyway... And conveniently enough, the first Monday is the 3rd. So yes, we're back to school after less than 2 weeks of a break. :(

I was wondering this myself a few days ago, as I know technically we have to get a Stat Holiday (well, everyone does) for New Years Day.
Most universities and businesses seem to have rescheduled the Stat Holiday to Monday Jan 3rd, but according to the holiday schedule posted at workingatmcmaster.ca, McMaster has scheduled the Stat Holiday for December 31st (conveniently when we're off anyways)
So it looks like we'll have class :(

Dec 31st?! :( That's so sad...my break is short enough as it is..ending exams on the 22nd - in the last possible time slot...I really would have liked one extra day :(.
What kinda stat holiday is Dec 31st anyways?!?! The whole university shuts down during the break anyways...

Aww, I know how you feel! I was in the same situation last year.Once you're done, all it matters is that you have a break! . I think it's just a lame excuse to fit in the "holiday" in a period where there'a already no work. Kind of like what they do with Family Day being in the middle of Reading week.
As for the holiday, it says it's in lieu of Jan 1st, since it's on a Saturday anyway. So Jan 3rd is making up for New Year's being on a weekend.

That's true, but it's one day, don't think it really makes that much of difference. I don't really mind though, I would've liked a longer break, as anyone would. But really, it's the exam schedule that sucks if anything.

In 5 hours? Sorry to bring down your hopes, but that was me last year for a psych midterm. It was actually snowing/storm, mind you. And nothing :(. But Good luck!! On a positive note, t's 1 exam closer to the break!

More nothing, considering how shitty and worthless everything at this school is.
