Collective bargaining update Jan. 4 - SEIU Local 2 (Hospitality)

Via Daily News:

The University continues meeting Jan. 4 and 5 with SEIU Local 2 (Hospitality) and a provincial conciliator working towards a renewed collective agreement. SEIU Local 2 represents hospitality and food service workers at McMaster. The union is in a legal strike position at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 6.

While progress has been made and the University is hopeful of reaching an agreement, contingency planning is underway should there be a strike. In the event of a strike, the University's top priority will be to ensure students living in residence and those with meal plans have access to food services.

A number of food service outlets would remain open during a strike, including the Phoenix, 1280, University Club, outlets at the Downtown Centre and Ron Joyce Centre, and the cafeterias located in McMaster University Medical Centre.

I don't think any of those places accept the student card, though so what would happen to the remainder of the money should a strike occur?

I didn't know the University Club allowed students to dine there; I was under the impression it was invitation-only.

MSU Re-Launches Labour Relations Information Page
McMaster University and SEIU Local 2, representing Hospitality Services employees, are currently in a contract negotiation process. There are scheduled days of negotiations to take place on January 3rd, 4th and 5th. If a settlement has not been reached after January 5th, SEIU Local 2 has set a work-stoppage date of Friday, January 7th.

A work-stoppage will likely have an impact on service delivery to McMaster students. As more details become available, the MSU website will report on the potential implications of a work-stoppage in regards to student life, as well as any new information pursuant to the labour negotiation process. Information will be available on the
MSU's Labour Relations page.

This page will contain only official communications from both sides and will not include any opinion or commentary from the MSU. It will be updated as frequently as possible. The page can be accessed here.

Additionaly, please consult
McMaster University’s Daily News website for updates/information from the University.

Please consult the
website of SEIU Local 2 for updates/information from the Union. SEIU Local 2 has prepared a message for McMaster students. It is available here.

Tell Us Your Strike Stories
Hi all, the MSU has expanded their service at Union Market and TwelvEighty during the strike to provide food options on campus (no meal plan required)
Also, please feel free to email me at [email protected] r.ca to tell me your account of the strike and how you've been affected. The MSU is collecting student accounts to make sure we are doing whatever possible to help students during this time.
