Are averages really that important after a certain extent? I am quite worried on another spectrum, where I have a 10.3 Average but I have no work experience at all other than some clubs so I'm not even sure if I will get a good job.
What is your take on this OP based on your peers in the program? Do students with high GPA's no work experience get jobs?

What I can tell you is that there are a lot of different kinds of postings. If you are the kind of person who is looking for a specific kind of posting, like say accounting at a big 4 firm then yeah competitions gonna be high and it will be harder to get an interview unless your accounting marks are legendary and your CA is really high (which it is compared to most people in the program
. I would say marks compared to experience is more important for those kinds of jobs in that its higher that you will get an interview, but getting the job is another story because it will depend on well you do interview, how your competition ranks the employer, and how your experience compares to others. About these people with high marks and their experience, I dont know from what I can see the people with high marks are usually just accounting TAs they dont need to go out there to find work cause they are already distinguished by their TA status.
What I can see from my experience and the experience of others is that employers are interviewing a lot of people at once right now. I think the reason being is because we are in the rank and match phase. Basically what that means is employers are going to offer interviews to people and rank them according to how much they want them, they can rank from 1 to maximum 15 people for each position. Then employer rankings are gonna be released on February 20 for our first phase, students will either see rank "1" or just ranked "R" with no specific number. Thats the reason why it is important to get interviews because CIP told us that people with ranks as low as 5 got the job. Then students will rank, and be matched according to the lowest numerical combination. E.g. employer ranks students as #1, student ranks #1 win-win its a match
D!! employer ranks student as 10, student ranks as 1 yo no one else here competition accept other positions its a match !! you been screwed employer
rofl
The jobs I got interviews for though were Pricing specialist (finance), Supply chain analyst (supply chain), and Business analyst (i dont know this is probably finance or combo). The jobs i got rejected for are media planning assistant, digital marketing assistant, and a different business analyst job( it was all like you need a high average to apply a minimum B average lol apparently a B average is high so imagine what a 10 average would be
). I think i did not get those like media and marketing interviews just because I didnt have you know no experience related to that. I actually kind of get this feeling that marketing is high in competition this year when they asked whose going for marketing all of these people raised up there hand. And also I think because a lot of people screwed up last semester if they took 3qa3 (which messed wiith peoples minds last semester), 3Ab3 and 3Fa3 in the same semester. For marketing, i think you need related experience to get an interview. I think im lucky in the sense that I did not screw up finance because i know a lot of people are shatting themselves right now in commerce internship and those kicked out for screwing 3fa3 last semester and with deaves and they all be like im gonna do accounting or marketing!
However, I would say I would say most of the jobs posted though does not ask for a focus on anything but actually are quite general business. For example, Hydro One's got postings saying "
Internship - Transmission and Distribution Settlements - Engineering or Business " and RBC's got "
Junior Analyst, Technology and Operations, Operational Risk " and Toronto Hydro Corporation has got a bunch of these "PEY" job postings , professional experince year or some shat like that with no position title at all and like a generic job description same accross each of these positions. Celestica is hiring various positions and you look at their website they are hiring close to 25 interns for 12-16 month positions but i think they are also hiring from other schools and colleges also and cmon how many business schools actually offer 12-16 month internship and how many students will go for it if they have co-op for 4 months.
When they told the stats about the program I was surprised at how good it is now they are improving it and this year they want to improve it even more with the double rank and match phase plus double continuous recruitment. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.
if anyone wants to answer my concern right now dont be shy go and answer
