CONFLICT: Lab or Class, which to Attend
Hi,

I want to swtich my chem lab to Monday (that way I can ge the Weds off) and therefore, I first contacted the chem undergrad person to ask him to change my lab. But as expected he said that I needed a better reason and the changes will only be made in the first week of classes.

Therefore to increase my chances I made my chem lab conflict with my math class. Now i wondering, when I go to class the first week....which do i attend the class or the lab?

Also is there any other way I can change my chem lab in August? (Its a required course)

Thanks

You're not going to have a chem lab for the first week or two.

lab, as class notes can be copied etc if its a one time thing. Switch courses around if its happening every week.

Nope chem labs won't begin until the 2nd or 3rd week.

Your prof will tell you the date when the labs start in the first lecture and usually its after a couple of weeks into the semester.

That's a pretty intense thing to do just to get Wednesday off.

The thing is I am commuting from Mississauga. So its not just about chem labs....its plus the commuting time.

But I read this thread where someone said that having labs in the beginning of the week (like Monday) is not that good...compared to wed.

I attached my schedule. Please let me know what you think: should I change my chem lab to mon or not?

wouldn't the chem lab still conflict with math on Monday? or is there another math core you want to take?

^^I'm with Shama. I don't see how switching it to Monday will help, unless you plan to switch your 1LS3 section?

1) Given the choice between labs, tutorials and lecture, labs are always the top priority. This is because labs are where you learn the hands on stuff you can't otherwise learn...in other words, if you miss a lecture, you can always meet the prof, read the notes/textbooks, etc...but you can't do a lab in the comfort of your home, if you know what I mean. Not to mention, labs are more often than not, mandatory. I don't know about Chem 1A, but when I took Bio 1A if you missed even a single lab you could not pass the course (with a few exceptions like death of a family member, etc. when you could do a make up lab).

2) If you're stuck and can't resolve your conflict, then definitely attend your Chem lab...you can contact your Math TA for extra help. If your TA is unavailable, you can contact me for extra help. (:

seems to me like the conflict is permanent. You need to see an advisor about this, how/if you can make these courses work together.

Chem 1A03 might do make up labs, the first few over the Thanksgiving break and some at the end of the semester. Good luck convincing Landry to do that though.

I also have a question. So school starts on Thursday and Friday...if I have any labs those days I should just not go because there won't be any? And what about tutorials will they at least be running?
