Confused !!

Hi,
I just finished my masters. I had taken a student loan for my studies, also have a loan on my car.I was working part time in a nearby cafe, and things were going good. I had applied for some jobs, and I was expecting that I would get through, so I left my job at the cafe. And unfortunately,I am not yet placed. So, my loans are pending, and I am not able to pay the monthly interests, and it is piling up. One of my friend has agreed that he will get me placed in his cousins company, and I have attended the interviews, and things are almost set, but it will take some time until I start my job. So, I don’t know what to do until then. My friend suggested me to go for debt consolidation, by which I can take a large loan, to pay off the smaller loans, and I that would help me survive until I start my job. Once I start working, I can pay off the loan. I am a bit worried but, is this the right thing to do ?
