Course Timetable
I've picked all my courses and worked them into a timetable. I'm going to the Humanities Acedemic Advising session next week... will I be actually registering for them there? Also, if I am able to successfully register for all my courses, does that I mean I'm guaranteed to have the timetable I signed up for?
Thanks so much!

You can start picking your courses on June 30th.

Your schedule is not guaranteed. However on august 13th, you can choose the cores, labs and tutorials of your courses. But only if space permits.

Are you in first year?
No you probably won't be registering for them there.
No it does not guarantee you to have that timetable. Sometimes you get assigned to different sections and tutorials than what you wanted (you don't choose core and lab/tutorial sections until late August, until then it assigns you to any one really).

I'm going in to first year.

But it says (on the McMaster site) that you can start registering for your courses on the 30th. What does that mean? I'm not registering for specific core or tutorial spots?

yeah. on midnight of the 30th you can register on SOLAR (in MUGSI). Do you know what that is?
You only choose your courses now, and then later you are allowed to choose specific core and tutorial spots.

Yeah, SOLAR's the course selection program, right?
But I do (at some point) get to try to pick specific spots? I worked out a timetable that's actually pretty convenient for me... it would be very nice to get it!
Does just choosing a course mean there's a spot reserved in SOME slot for me?

Actually, when I went to the SocSci advising session last year, they gave us a choice of picking our courses there in Mills Library... and people walked around to help us if we had any questions, so you probably will have a choice of choosing your courses there.

And yes, once you pick a course and you've selected it, you've secured a seat for yourself. You will be able to change the timeslot at a later date. (August 13th specifically.)

When you choose the course, you're guaranteed a spot in some slot just like you said. Starting on August 13th, you will be able to go back into SOLAR and start manually switching what sections you're actually taking it in to try and build the timetable that you want.

Basically, in June, you pick your courses. In august, you pick what core, tutorial, or lab section your in. You gotta be pick as spots get filled quickly and you may not get the section you want.

Yeah, I went last year but I already picked all my courses. Kind of a waste of time, but you can meet people.
