Hamilton's growing technology community will gather at McMaster University for DemoCampHamilton9 on Tuesday November 20th from 6:30pm to 9:00pm in Twelve Eighty. Anyone interested in technology is welcome to register to attend at
DemoCampHamilton.com.
DemoCamps draw in a community of 150-200 attendees and consist of a keynote on a startup topic followed by a series of tech demos done by local startups and students. Demos at this event include Hamilton-area tech firms like online video game creator Hard Circle and e-commerce companies TrendTrunk and TripCentral, as well as demos by Gavin Schulz and Shawn Janas, both students of the Department of Computing & Software.
Gavin has developed a mobile app called NextBus that helps you quickly find the next bus time in Hamilton. "Using the existing HSR website is frustrating on a mobile device due to the number of screens you have to navigate", says Gavin, "so I built NextBus to simplify the process."
Shawn built a web app called TurnChannel that allows you to discover electronic music from up and coming artists that you probably haven’t heard of yet. "With the rising popularity of Electronic Dance Music", says Shawn, "I built TurnChannel to work with independent artists to help get their name out there." TurnChannel has already played over 38,000 tracks and was recently featured on the front page of Hacker News.
DemoCampHamilton9 will feature a keynote by Carol Leaman, CEO of Axonify, a Waterloo-area startup that uses behavioral science and gamification to create an innovative e-learning solution used for corporate training. Carol herself was previously CEO of PostRank, a social media analytics startup that was sold to Google in 2011.
