Desire 2 Learn (D2L)
Just thought I'd throw this out there!

I found out today through my professor that McMaster is planning to replace ELM with a new learning management system known as 'Desire 2 Learn' because of the many problems we've had.

In case you'd like to know a bit more about the system, you can visit the following link for more information:

http://www.desire2learn.com/

Feel free to discuss! WebCT, ELM, or D2L?

Even though it's used for such little of the year, I'd prefer upgrades to MUGSI and SOLAR because your luck with that volatile system determines your year.
As for ELM...it would be nice if the thing didn't keep crashing every time it realised it had over 10000 students to process. The number isn't growing exponentially. September's number = January's number. No reason not to be able to meet capacity requirements.

I heard about it from another one of my profs, he also teaches at Mohawk College and they use D2L over there. He says one of the nice things is that since they're in Kitchener, when you DO have an issue, they take care of you quickly and from his experience, they'll bend over backwards for you. Can't say the same for Blackboard, whose head office is in Washington DC and the Canadian offices are in Vancouver.

ELM is so bad, that this term only ONE of my four courses actually is using ELM, even though they're all supposed to. It's much easier and faster for the teachers to load stuff onto the podium computers and everybody just grabs their USB and distributes accordingly. Small classes in B.Tech can do that, I doubt other big classes could.

D2L? Bring it on. Anything's gonna be better than the shitshow that ELM is.
