How do I disable"Verr Maj" on my laptop keyboard? All these weird characters are showing up when I type.
Thanks.

"verr maj" is "cap locks" in french. You've managed to get yourself into bilingual keyboard mode. How to turn this on and off varies by laptop, so I'd try to talk to online support or google your laptop and bilingual mode.
edit: on my HP I turn bilingual mode on/off by holding down right alt for 3 seconds. (probably not helpful but w/e)
Check the taskbar and see if there's "FR" in the right corner. Click it and change it to "EN" My laptop isn't bilingual, though, so it might be different for you.

Ctrl+ Shift should work for most laptops or check the taskbar and chance it from there

On Windows 7:
Go to control panel ---> region and language ----> keyboards and languages tab --->
change keyboards
You can change it back to english in that menu
To permanently disable the shortcut to switch between languages:
Go to 'advanced key settings' from the 'change keyboards' menu and click "change key sequence"
--> choose "not assigned"
