"To-Do List" for first years?
So, I'm getting ready to move in this weekend and I was wondering about some of the things I should be sure to take care of once I get on campus. For example, I remember hearing somewhere that mac students could get a hamilton transit pass. Is this included with tuition or do I have to opt in? Where would I get it from? Things like that which I should take care of once I'm there

The HSR pass is the sticker that came in the mail for your Student ID card. It grants you unlimited bus rides for any HSR route.

You're in Bates. If you're not first or basement floor, I highly recommend the first thing you do is take out your fan and set it on high before any unpacking . . . unless it's unnaturally cool that day. (srsly, Bates welcome week sucked.)

Have you talked to your roommates about appliances yet?

Buy some earplugs! You can get them at Ttles for like 70 cents per pair, or you can go to Walmart or Costco and get a big box for cheaper. I suggest getting them ASAP, because when you're trying fall asleep on the first few nights, you might regret not buying them.

if you want a gym pass, get it asap. seriously. the line up sucks.

other than that, take time to unpack to the way you want everything. you won't have time afterwards if you plan on doing a lot of stuff during welcome week.

also, hope to god the bate elevator doesn't break down... like it does every year.

Pulse Membership: http://www.athrec.mcmaster.c a/registration/pulse.htm

You buy them at DBAC (David Braley Athletic Centre) at the front office. It says you can buy it online but I've never tried.

Gym pass is $119 for 8 months. They went up from $102 last year.

If you're interested in getting a locker, it's a lottery for it since demand is absurdly high. Not really worth it IMO if you live on campus.

Part of the reason is because of the HST.

harmonized sales tax...it combines the GST and PST, so that many items that were previously only charged one tax are now charged both.

Edit: Also, lockers aren't by lottery, they're first come, first served.
Unless you mean the gym lockers, in which case I have no idea how that works

Harmonized Sales Tax which was implemented July 1st 2010. It replaced the PST and GST.

Yeah, the gym lockers used to be first come first served but they changed it this year: http://www.athrec.mcmaster.c a/regi...n/services.htm
