Do Something Nice Today
Hey All.
Just thought i'd give a quick plug for a good cause. As you all have probably heard, there's a horrible crisis going on in Haiti right now & Rogers/Fido is doing something really great to help out.
All Rogers & Fido Wireless customers can TEXT “HELP” or “Donate” to 1291. Reply to confirmation request with 'yes.' You will receive a thank you message that confirms the donation and $5 will be added to your next Wireless invoice.
Rogers will forward 100 per cent of the SMS revenues to the Haitian Relief Effort. In addition, Rogers Communications and the Rogers family will donate $250,000 in funds and goods to Partners In Health: Haiti and other relief organizations in the country.

It's foolish to think that Rogers/Fido actually gives a shit.

Maybe so, but their customers can.
It's amazing that they're offering such an easy way to donate. Think of how much money we can raise if everyone txt'd $5 to help out!

If people actually gave a shit and wanted to donate/help no matter what, the level of "convenience" wouldn't be an issue.

I assume you mean Shock Doctrine? I still haven't finished that one. But I've read No Logo a couple of times.

I don't understand why everything has to be argued on a next level scale.. if you'd like to give 5 dollars with the intent of helping, then do it.. if not, then don't lol. it's really not that hard of a decision..
where the money goes, no one knows, but i certainly hope it gets there.. if not, then, hey, at least i tried on my behalf

Yeap! Shock Doctrine goes over in detail with direct quotes about how exactly similar stuff happened in Post Soviet Russia, Poland, South America, Asian Tiger Economies and recently in Iraq and Afghanistan. Where there was no natural disaster they created a political or economic disaster. Must read!

It's great that such an opportunity exists...I'm with Fido, so I just sent a text. (:
I'd just like to urge people not to forget about their local charities, because they also have it pretty bad and don't have an 'earthquake' to draw the gaze and support of the rest of the world...so it's up to us.

I agree, but unfortunately in today's society, that hardly exists.
