Do you think you'll work in a field related to your education at McMaster?

no mall job
Im in sociology and social work at Mac. I really hope that when i graduate next year I'll be able to find a job in social work, but it seems like everyone is going into this program :( I'll be really upset if I graduate and all I can find is a job at timmies (not to knock timmies or anyone working there). I just want to be able to put my degree into use

I would hope so. And that's one of the reasons why I opted to spend the extra year and do co-op, to hopefully get a relevant job or grad school in a program I would actually enjoy.

It really depends on how well you have your career goals planned out before you graduate.

I was in health sci and now I'm in vet school (always planned on it). I chose not to go the zoology/animal bio route for undergrad because I wanted exposure to human health care/medicine too. But I guess they're still related, the anatomy and physiology between humans and domestic mammals is very comparable.

With co-op experience I think I'll have a good chance of finding something. But I really do anticipate that Ill spend a few years in and out of different jobs, because I have no idea what kind of job I want or what I want to invest 8 hours a day in.

Co-op definitely provides valuable work experience once you graduate - which gives you a competitive edge compared to other recent graduates. I wish all programs had a co-op option!

Just out of curiosity where did you have your co-op placements?

I graduated from science, got into a research job, and am now about to go back to school to get my Master's degree. I didn't really have any clear idea of what I wanted to do after graduation - I even thought a lot about social work - and now I'm going to get the best of both worlds in public health.

I'm doing an 8-month placement right now at Hydro One corporate office. Then back to school in september! I'm excited to work somewhere new next May, not sure where yet

Dude, it's a legit question. My dad, for example, got his degree in electrical engineering but now works as a software engineer. I know loads of people who got engineering degrees but then went into marketing.
