MacWork / McMaster Summer Work Program Application Questions.
So I'm looking to apply for a summer job within McMaster, and one of the requirements is that I'm accepted by MacWork or whatever you'd call it.
My questions is what are they looking for. The form is filled out now, and as it stands, over the summer I'll make money (due to savings). If I don't get a job I might not be able to go to school in September, but as the form is filled out now (as it only looks at summer expenses) it looks like I'm doing okay.
So, what are they looking for? More expenses than savings? What will virtually guarantee I get accepted? I'm not afraid to adjust the numbers, shall we say. They're already looking pretty iffy

If you are on OSAP you are automatically qualified for McWork. Since you had to fill out the form, I'm assuming that you're not. McWork is designed to reserve jobs for students who are in financial need. They will take into consideration your living expenses during the summer, your income, and if you have an outside financial support like family or loans.
Be honest on your form, if you lie you will be red-flagged and you may not receive any financial support in the future.
You can always arrange a time to go in and talk to an adviser at the Financial Aid office who can tell you if you will most likely get approved. You are not guaranteed to get approved for McWork unfortunately. There are some McMaster jobs though that do not require McWork, so def apply to some of those too.

Mac employers want you to get McWork because some of your wages get subsidized by the government.
I wasn't eligible last year, but I think the other four students I worked with were. Nevertheless, I still was hired for the summer.

I'm applying to a particular job that requires it, unfortunately.
If I'm down $1000, is that enough to get accepted?
Can anyone who's been accepted/denied give me a little bit of helpful information?

Unfortunately all I got was "you were ineligible" from my employer. I think it's because I had graduated, but was coming back for another year. If you're graduating you're not eligible.
