Another thing is, tell him to tell all his "fob" friends that they can speak whatever language to him, but he's going to start speaking in English to them.

He can read outloud all he wants, but nothing will help more than being put on the spot.

I cannot recommend this group highly enough. I suspect a lot of his problem is confidence and that's what this group builds in spades. The website leaves a lot to be desired but they have so much to offer.

problem is he came to canada.......... being an immigrant country there r way too many foreigners here to help newcomers develop english. in my high school in scarborough, pretty much all the kids in ESL classes r asians, so they speak chinese between themselves. my family moved to the UK when i was in grade 7, was the only chinese kid in the entire town, my school kinda just dropped me into normal classes and woot got my british accent in like a month's time(kinda lost it all after i came to canada tho....but i still say tomato/status/data/aluminium and so on my old way ).

i think he just need to not think about his accent, mayb he is afraid so he cant speak very fluently? accent here really isnt that much an issue, a lot of the profs in our school have wierd accents yeah?
