79% is the cut-off for guaranteed residence for all programs and anyone in first year. A lot of programs are much higher than an 80% cut-off for entry.

Said 80% on my offer of admission and that is my point exactly that so many students got accepted into McMaster University and majority were guaranteed residence due to their averages.

Maybe for your program, but not everything. Also, the cut-off is different from the average that you need to maintain and keep your conditional offer. Also being guaranteed residence, is not only dependant on your average, you also have to submit the application and pay the deposit by the deadline.

So you're saying that the cut off for residence is different for everyone depending on what program they're enrolled in =/? I know that you have to fill out an application and whatnot but most first years tend to go into residence because they fill it is necessary.

I think we both misunderstood each other. I meant different cut-offs for academic programs. The cut-off for rez is 79% of everyone. I just meant that having the 79% doesn't necessarily mean you're guaranteed residence if you don't fill out the application and most importantly, pay the $600 deposit.

Go off campus. Getting handed an extra $1000 is wonderful and I don't know people who enjoyed living in a triple, too many different sleeping habits.
In regard to no having enough room this year there were TOONNSS of first years acceped and a lot wanted residence. Honestly, it's horrible this year and a lot of upper years are getting screwed too. Just go off-campus, it's just a better decision in this situation.

Here's a copy of the email:

Hi N********
McMaster University is a destination of choice this year! More students are planning to attend Mac this fall, which has generated increased demand for a spot in residence. Typically, cancellations received through the summer allow us to accommodate additional students. This year, there have been fewer cancellations than normal.
As a result of this situation, we are offering the following incentive package for students who may be interested in considering other housing options:
A full $600 deposit refund
$1000 cheque, bookstore or student account credit
Priority placement for residence accommodations next September.
This offer is limited and will only be available until 4pm Tuesday, July 26th. Interested in taking this offer? Contact the Residence Admissions Office at 905.525.9140 ext. 24342 to check availability and to discuss the details.

Lol I haven't even had a tour of the school but when I drove around it with my parents, it looked kinda small compared to other universities. Where could they even build a res building the surrounding of the school looks pretty developed.
