Dropping a Class after the Drop date?
I'm sitting with a 28% in 2aa3 accounting and we only have a 40% exam left. Should I drop the course or should I try to grind it out?

Dropping now means an automatic fail for the course on your transcript. Since it has come to this, you might as well put everything you got into the final to pass. Write the exam. your fate in this course is still undecided.

Yeah, the way this guy has been doing so far, his chances of passing are none. I would suggest going to the office of the registrar and giving them some shenanigans about your internet not working and what not. Not gonna work, but at least it's something.
It is fascinating how many people every year do not keep track of deadlines and do not plan ahead.

I think you'll need to send a request for special consideration to your faculty if you have had a legit issue with the course. Even then you'll need a miracle.
My advice, get studying NOW!

This. No matter how "legitimate" (or not) your reason is for doing so badly in the course that your choices are either drop or fail, there's no excuse for not knowing when the deadline is to drop. It's on the registrar's website, implied on the student accounts and cashiers website, probably been posted here a few times, and you had the entire term to look up when it was. If you just simply weren't keeping track of when the deadline was, you shouldn't get an extension to drop, regardless of what your reasons were for doing badly in the course. There are consequences. Since the OP was asking if they "should" drop, that implies they had no idea when the deadline was (it was Nov 9, btw).
If on the other hand something happened such as you being hospitalized and were physically unable to go online and drop the course, that's a different situation. Many people leave it as late as possible to make sure that they actually want to drop the course, which is fine, and sometimes things happen that you just can't foresee.

Isn't it 55 on the exam to pass? 28+0.55*40 = 50% in the course.
EDIT: Nevermind, not sure if it's 28% earned, or 28% out of the 60%

28% WORTH 60% of the course, so I only need a a 55% on the exam to pass. I think I'm gonna have to grind it out. Also, we got our 2nd midterm marks back after the drop date so yeah.

Nope the person that said you needed an 83% on the final was right.
28% on 60% = 16.8% of your overall grade has been achieved
so 50-16.8 = 33.2, which means that you need 33.2/40 = 83%
that is to just pass by the absolute minimum, so gl

That doesn't matter. University policy states that you need to know 10% of your final grade by the drop/add date. You can debate how fair that is all you want (personally I think the number should be a bit higher, around 25%), but all you need is 10%.
I didn't actually learn this until the beginning of April in my final year...and a couple of my courses didn't actually follow this policy, but it's there and you can call your prof out on it if needed. It would also probably be a legitimate reason to extend the drop/add date, if you didn't have 10% of your grade by that point.
So yeah...unless your first midterm was worth less than 10%, it doesn't matter that you didn't have your second midterm marks back.
